Looks like we are in for our first session of fall rain. I love the shade it provides in the summer but I am even happier to be under the gazebo tomorrow. We will have tables and chairs set up so that you have a dry place to each lunch.
Strawberries should be available tomorrow. This week is likely the last week for strawberries so you may want to stock your freezer this week. There may be a few melons available but like the berries, this is the last week. Apples, pears and to a lesser extent, plums, will be available. As for vegetables, you should find a nice selection of lettuces and other greens, beets, green beans, eggplants, daikon, carrots, cucumbers and other vegetables. The season for corn and green beans is ending While the rains can cause problems for some fruits and vegetables, the wild mushroom season is in full swing. Bill should have matsutakes, chanterelles, lobster mushrooms, porcini and chicken of the woods as well as cultivated shiitake and maitake mushrooms. Little Pots and Pans is off this week but will be back on October 20th. Katie’s Gluten Free Baking and Total Pig are back this week.
