The freezing temperatures two weeks ago has taken its toll on a few vendors. THINK Unique Gardens and Radicle Pastures are finished for the season. THINK Unique Gardens may be back in March with plants if the weather is cooperative. RedTree Farm is transitioning to its winter plantings and expects to be back in the market in a few weeks. You should see a few new faces in the market in a few weeks.I’ve been talking with several farms (including a cranberry grower!) interested in coming over the next few months.
The weather is being kinder to the late summer crops this past week. If (and I emphasize if) the temperatures stay above freezing at night there should be strawberries this week and next week. There will be some available this week at least. Apples and pears will be available. You should find plenty of hazelnuts too. As for vegetables, you should find a nice selection of lettuces and other greens, beets, green beans, eggplants, daikon, carrots, cucumbers and other vegetables. The season for corn and green beans is ending but you should still find some of both vegetables this week. As for mushrooms, Bill should have matsutakes, chanterelles, lobster mushrooms, porcini and chicken of the woods as well as cultivated shiitake and maitake mushrooms. Little Pots and Pans is back this week with savory tarts and salads.
