Market News December 22 2009 Market

December 21, 2009

This Tuesday’s market is the last market for 2009. We are closed next week (December 29th) and open again on January 5, 2010. The farmers, vendors and I are grateful for the support we’ve received. Regardless of the weather conditions, you shoppers return week after week and we thank you for coming. And we owe a big thank you to everyone at Ashforth-Pacific for providing a very pleasant space for the market and helping in many ways. We look forward to a great 2010.

The winter crops are slowly recovering from the cold snap. Greens are still limited but are improving. Root vegetables such as beets, parsnips, carrots, radishes and turnips should readily available. Winter squashes should be available as well. Apples, pears, chestnuts and hazelnuts should be available too.

Here’s the expected availability list:

Rick Steffen Farm – onions, shallots, peppers, brussels sprouts, potatoes, carrots, celery, chard, beets, peppers, radishes and turnips. Rick also has ornamental pepper bouquets, cabbage roses, and desktop Christmas trees. Rick may have a few wreaths left too.

Greenville Farms – winter squash, potatoes, hazelnuts, eggs and jams.

Osmogaia – mustard greens (maybe), kale (several varieties), chard, tatsoi, bok choy, cabbage, winter squash, daikon, radishes, winter squash.
