Market Update

Market News April 27 2010 Market

Anyone who stopped at a farmers market this weekend saw another sure sign of spring: strawberries. Thanks to the wonders of cold frames, a number of farms, including Rick Steffen Farm at this market, have strawberries. They aren’t Hoods or Shuksans (those are June berries) but Seascape, a variety that does well in cold frames and have a pretty nice flavor. Rick will have some tomorrow and plenty more in the weeks to come. Little Pots and Pans is back at the market this week with tarts and salads. Here’s the rundown for all vendors this week:

Rick Steffen Farm – asparagus, onions, shallots, scallions, leeks, potatoes, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, spinach, swiss chard, miner’s lettuce, broccoli, broccoli raab (rapini), turnips, strawberries, tulips, irises and daffodils.

Greenville Farms – prunes, hazelnuts, eggs and jams.

Nature’s Choice – fresh mushrooms (shiitake, maitake, black trumpets, morels (maybe)), dried mushrooms, nettles, miner’s lettuce (maybe), mushroom salt, honey, chestnuts, huckleberry jam.
