July 6 2010 Market Update

Summer fruits are coming into the market quickly. It’s still a week or more away from peaches but you’ll find cherries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, gooseberries, blackberries (probable not definite yet) and possibly apricots. Most of the June berries are finished though you may find a few Hoods or Totems tomorrow. The hot temperatures could slow down the berry harvest later in the week. Berries can easily get scalded in the hot sun and cane berries (raspberries, blackberries etc.) pretty much stop producing when the temperatures get above 85 degrees or so. Greens, as you can imagine, don’t love the heat either. On the other hand, the tomatoes and peppers will be really happy with the heat. We are living in an interesting year.

Other vendor news: THINK Unique Gardens will be at the market alternate weeks so this month’s date are July 6th and July 20th. We also have a one time appearance by Kris Sampson. Kris and her family are tribal fishers so she’ll be bringing fresh and processed salmon.

Here’s the vendor rundown for this Tuesday:

Rick Steffen Farm – onions, shallots, scallions, leeks, potatoes, carrots, green beans, sugar snap peas, basil (maybe), kohlrabi, spinach, swiss chard, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries (probable).

Greenville Farms – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries (possible), prunes, hazelnuts, eggs and jams.

Nature’s Choice – fresh mushrooms (shiitake, maitake), dried mushrooms, mushroom salt, honey, chestnuts, huckleberry jam. (Possibly wild huckleberries).

Bigfoot Bread – toasting bread, pitas & flatbreads, pita chips, cinnamon rolls, cornbread, apple kuchen (maybe), Good Morning Bar.

Little Pots and Pans – savory tarts (including gluten free), tartlets, salads including Strawberry Basil Goat Cheese Tart, Spring Pea with Pistou Soup.

Fressen Artisan Bakery – Austrian and German breads and pastries including boerek, mueslibrot, volkornbrot, pretzels, bavarian croissants, granola, fruit/almond danishes and brioches.

THINK Unique Gardens: vegetable starts (including tomatoes (maybe), cucumbers, peppers, chard), hardy perennials, annuals, herbs.

Packer Orchards: cherries, pear juice sweetened cookies and hand pies.

Radicle Pastures (certified organic): lettuce.

Rogue Creamery: cheeses, butter.

Unger Farms: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries.

Xiong Farmer: Flowers.
