July 8 2010 Market Update

Cherries and berries are quite plentiful this week. Bing and Rainier cherries have been available for a few weeks while sour cherries should be coming in very soon. After the slow start, berries of all kinds are available. You’ll find Albion strawberries, several varieties of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. The hot weather slows down berry production but there should be no problem tomorrow. Radicle Pastures brought a lot of lettuce on Tuesday and expects to have plenty more tomorrow. You should also find carrots, onions, beets, cilantro and chives tomorrow.

Fressen Bakery will have a wide selection of German and Austrian breads, pretzels and pastries. Little Pots and Pans will be bringing more tarts, tartlets and Spring Pea w/Pistou (French Basil Pesto) Soup. It’s the last week for the Spring Pea Soup so you might want to stock up. The Hummus Stop will have several flavors of hummus, pita, pita chips, tabouli, artichoke salad and other savory items. Amaranth of Ammie’s Goodies will be back with a wide variety of gluten-free items including her gluten-free baguette. These baguettes are tasty and becoming quite popular. Better get them while you can.

Full of Life Farm will have a variety of beef cuts and chicken to choose from if you want to grill this weekend. (Given the warm days this week, cooking outside is probably a good idea.) The Farm will be taking orders if you are interested in stocking your freezer as well as taking turkey orders for Thanksgiving. Here is the rundown for all vendors this Thursday:

Ammie’s Goodies – gluten free baked goods.

Greenville Farms – blueberries, raspberries, prunes, hazelnuts, cookies, eggs and jams.

Full of Life Farm – beef, chicken.

The Hummus Stop – hummus, tabouli, baba ganoush, artichoke salad, pita, pita chips.

Little Pots and Pans – savory tarts (including gluten free), tartlets including the new Strawberry Basil Goat Cheese Tart, soup.

Fressen Artisan Bakery – German and Austrian breads and pastries.

Radicle Pastures (certified organic): Lettuce, strawberries (maybe).

Packer Orchards and Bakery – cherries, pear sweetened cookies, fruit hand pies.

Sulina & Bay’s Farm: Flowers, strawberries, peas, carrots, radishes, lettuce, leeks, scallions, onions, cilantro, dill.

Unger Farms: strawberries (Albion), raspberries (Cascade Dawn, Tulameen), blueberries, blackberries (Obsidian).
