Market Update October 12 2010 Market

October 11, 2010

We had pretty heavy rains this past weekend. It looks like there will still be strawberries and tomatoes though. Cucumbers, summer squash, peppers, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and onions should be plentiful too. There will be a nice selection of winter squash (including pumpkins) tomorrow as well. Wild mushrooms (lobster, matsutake and chanterelle (white and yellow) mushrooms love the wet weather we’ve had and should be readily available as well. Nature’s Choice had a coral mushroom last week. It was quite spectacular with a really wonderful fragrance. I can’t wait to see what he has found this past week.

Mohammed from The Hummus Stop gave me a tub of his artichoke salad last week. The salad is great all by itself, but I discovered that several spoonfuls over a bowl of lettuce is a quick way to have a dressed salad. Pair the salad with a piece of focaccia from Bigfoot Bread and some salumi from Olympic Provisions and you have a pretty hardy meal.

Vendor update –

THINK Unique Gardens is finished for the calendar year. Suzanne will be back sometime in the spring with hardy perennials, shrubs and plant starts. Bigfoot Bread is out this week. Greg is sick and unable to bake. He’ll be back next week.

Before I forget, I want to thank the customers who stopped me at the market last week and shared the names of farmers and food vendors they’ve visited at other markets. I know a lot of people but not everyone so it’s always good to hear recommendations from customers. I am following up on the suggestions. If you have a favorite farmer, let me know. We don’t have a lot of room but you never know.

See you tomorrow,

Eamon Molloy
Market Manager
