Market Update November 23 2010

November 22, 2010

Winter is definitely coming in. Sunday morning went from sunny to snow flurries in a matter of hours. This Tuesday will be cold but clear. Monday’s weather however will make life interesting. Depending on where you are, it will be snowy, icy or a bit of both. Rick Steffen Farm will be out tomorrow. The roads early tomorrow morning will be too icy to safely navigate. They’ll be back next week. Fressen Bakery, Meadow Harvest, and Savory et Sweet will also be out. All will be back next week.

Ivy Manning, a local cookbook writer and food blogger, posted a great recipe for Thanksgiving last week. Mushroom Gravy for Everyone (link) is just the thing for anyone who is facing a meal with a guest who is vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. The recipe calls for dried and fresh mushrooms. Nature’s Choice has a nice selection of dried mushrooms as well as fresh mushrooms. Dried mushrooms are a great pantry item. I’ve used their dried mushrooms to make stock and in other dishes with great success. Check out the article even if you don’t need an option. Ivy’s recipes are very good. (Note that if you need a gluten-free gravy be sure that the soy sauce is gluten-free).

Here’s Tuesday’s vendor rundown:
